Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge

Distance from Pleasant Acres: 7 miles

One of the many amazing public lands in the region is the Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge. With over a decade of growth, this expansive property now spans 2 states (NY and NJ) and over 5,000 acres of diverse habitat and ecotones.

Visitors can explore and enjoy a variety of activities from bird watching to hunting, hiking to kayaking. In fact, there are over 260 bird species inhabiting the region each year. PAC campers who bring their own canoe or kayak will find that the Refuge’s boat launches are a quick trip away. Pleasant Acres campers are not far from some of the best features of the refuge, including Liberty Loop Trail on the New York- New Jersey line and Damar-Dale Trail, both less than 10 miles away. Trails are open dawn until dusk.   Check out the official website below for more details.
