It isn’t always an easy task rounding up the animals on a farm. At the Pig Chase, you and your family are invited in on the action. Held on holiday weekends throughout the summer, this is a crowd favorite. Come to watch; or better yet, chase a pig! Participants are divided into categories and ribbons are awarded after each round. Stay ’til the end when we invite everyone to come in for pictures and petting. Don’t forget to stop by our store and get your “I Chased a Pig” T-shirt to show off to your friends
Right in the heart of the late-summer harvest our family brings in bushels of sweet corn from a neighboring farm, husk and clean it. We boil it up and serve it up, dipped in warm butter and salted to your liking. Bring your own utensils and come to eat as much as you’d like. Delicious and farm fresh, this is sure to put a smile on everyone’s face!
Of course, every weekend during the summer season is a great weekend for you and your family to have fun on the farm. Each Saturday morning at 11am, Pleasant Acres offers our campers Horse-drawn Hayrides with our team of Belgian draft horses . Pleasant Acres is honored to be hosting another exciting camping season in Sussex County, New Jersey. We are finding a lot of families rediscovering life on the farm. We find that a lot of campers are bringing their children or their children’s children to enjoy all of the wonders of country living and nature at it’s finest. Located in North, North Jersey, just miles from the NY-NJ-PA border, Pleasant Acres offers some of the top camping in NJ at the very top of NJ. Of course, every business should give back to their community.
Here at Pleasant Acres, we work with the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life- Sussex County in raising money to help find a cure for cancer. Since 2005, we started fundraising in memory of all of those lost to cancer. We are aware that cancer unfortunately touches too many people. Despite this, we know finding a cure is a common cause we can all rally behind. In 2009, we lost our matriarch Jen Denman, who started Pleasant Acres Farm Campground with her husband Elmer, to cancer. She was well loved by everyone here at the campground, calling it her “little piece of heaven.” Over the past decade we have raised over $80,000 for the American Cancer Society. Thanks to numerous businesses and individuals who have donated time, money, and their talents, our Annual Tricky Tray Fndraiser has been a great success each and every year.
What is a Tricky Tray? Campers, employees and local area businesses donate baskets of goods or free services. Then, campers buy raffle tickets to place in a bag in front of each basket in hopes that their ticket is drawn to win the prize. This link explains it more thoroughly. Our campers always come through and help us find many amazing prizes to help us raise money for the cause.
This year’s Annual Trick Tray Fundraiser will be held on Saturday August 13th, in addition to our weekly activities such as horse-drawn hayrides, baby animal petting, fresh-cooked breakfasts and paint parties! Check out our activities schedule for more information. This is always a very popular weekend for camping at Pleasant Acres but there are still RV Sites available so reserve your site today!
How can you help?
Pleasant Acres and the Denman Family would like to thank everyone for their help and support over the past years in helping to fight cancer, especially Mrs. Shirley Keenan, without whom the Tricky Tray would not be the resounding success that it is. We hope that, with everyone’s help, we can see a day where we no longer need to raise money to fight this deadly disease.
Pleasant Acres is happy to announce the Paint Party Schedule for the remainder of the summer season. This week’s Sunday Afternoon Paint Party theme for August 7th will be ‘Birch Trees’!
There are a variety of ways to enjoy your vacation at Pleasant Acres Farm Campground, located in the North Jersey Skylands Region. Every day the Pleasant Acres staff and the Denman family host events that make a guest’s stay fun, fulfilling and memorable. On weekends, we make sure there are always plenty of activities in which you and your family can indulge. This year as part of our 45th Anniversary, we started hosting Paint Parties every Sunday afternoon at 2pm in the Pavilion!
What are Paint Parties? Each weekend, we pick a different theme based on the campgrounds, the farm or the abundance of nature surrounding Pleasant Acres. An instructor brings you step-by-step through each week’s theme. Painting can be a very therapeutic activity and we encourage a fun, relaxed atmosphere. We cater to all different age ranges and skill levels with prepped canvases so that you don’t hesitate to jump right in. Come alone to unwind, or bring your entire entourage and have fun!
Another option for the more adventuresome artist is Open Studio. Here you choose a blank canvas and are encouraged to create your own unique masterpiece, with the same supplies offered and help available if you need it!
All supplies are covered by a $10 fee- and you get to take your creation home as a souvenir of your stay!
