Every Saturday at 2:00 PM during the summer season, we do something special. Whether it is a time to learn about country life, or a time to congregate as a camping community – these activities are always held with the family in mind. Every weekend at Pleasant Acres is unique, so whether you find that special weekend to get away, make reservations for several, or decide to stay the entire summer, we find ways to make your stay memorable!
Be sure to be on time- we don’t want anyone to miss out on any of the fun!
Here’s what we have in store for Summer Saturdays in 2018:
We open our summer season each year by giving our wonderful, wooly friends a haircut. Wool has been an important part of society for centuries and has been used to make everything from human clothing to horse blankets! Guests are invited to watch the process, learn about these fine animals, marvel at the fleece and ask questions.
Everyone is welcome to try their hand at this important farm chore. Whether it is something you wish your children to experience, or it is on that endless bucket-list of things to do in life, you are welcome to take a turn. We will be right there to demonstrate and show you how.
It isn’t always an easy task rounding up the animals on a farm. At the Pig Chase, you and your family are invited in on the action. Held on holiday weekends throughout the summer since our opening, this is a crowd favorite. Come to watch the silly antics; or better yet, chase a pig! Participants are divided into categories and ribbons are awarded after each round. Stay ’til the end when we invite everyone to come in for pictures and petting. Don’t forget to stop by our store and get your “I Chased a Pig” T-shirt to show off to your friends!
Decorate your golf cart, bicycle, wagons, baby carriages, etc. We encourage everyone to bee creative! Meet by the basketball court for the grand event. You never know what we might have in the line-up. Spectators can set up chairs along North or South Drive and watch the parade pass by, culminating at the Playground!
Check out a video of our 2016 Campground Parade on Facebook!
Though a fun time for all ages, Macaroni connects with children with musicality and silliness. He is a great local children’s entertainer who plays games, provides entertainment and more! He is delightful, interactive and wonderful with kids!
Campers are invited to gather in our pavilion to create a one-of-a-kind souvenir of their stay. We provide all of the materials and guidance to transform your t-shirt into a work of art that rivals the bright colors of summer. You are welcome to bring your own t-shirt or we will have a selection on hand for sale. This is a rather popular event and we ask that you begin registering at 1:30 in the Pavilion for a prompt 2:00 start.
Bringing together our community for a healthy, competitive cook-off! Some of our campers spend hours or even an overnight, getting their recipe just right. Please arrive early to the Pavilion and bring enough to feed a crowd if you are setting up to participate in the competition. When it begins, spectators wait as a small panel of camper judges tastes and make notes. Afterwards those watching are invited to partake and ask questions about the recipes as the judges deliberate. Ribbons are generally awarded for the hottest, the tastiest and presentation to close the event.
Come and view a wide array of talent displayed for sale! Each year is different but over the years we have seen so many great items from quilts to macramé, photography to baked goods. Talented yourself? As a camper- reserve a free table if you wish to sell your handcrafted or homemade items.
We believe that there is room for the spirit and joy of the holiday season even in summer. From a decorated tree to Christmas karaoke, the event builds with anticipation for the arrival of Santa! Santa’s elves help out with the gift swap- where those giving a gift, receive another gift. We ask that campers label their presents (Boy, Girl, Adult or Infant) based on who is giving it, and bring them to our office starting in the morning, but before 2pm. Santa will be around to take pictures with everyone, give out candy to the kids and remind them to be stay on his ‘nice’ list !
A great event for the family! Children and adults alike marvel at Mr. Magic’s escapades. He always comes to Pleasant Acres with a few tricks up his sleeve. He is certain to amuse everyone who comes to see!
We at Pleasant Acres love to contribute to our community and to the world at large. For a decade we have been holding this huge annual event in support of the American Cancer Society. We understand the unfortunate fact that everyone’s lives, ours included, have been affected in one way or another by this prevalent disease. This is why, as a community, we come together to raise money towards it’s cure. The fundraiser always has a bounty of wonderful prizes at different levels. Come spend the afternoon browsing, purchasing tickets and hopefully winning many great items! If you have any donations or know anybody interested in donating items or services, please contact our Office any time throughout the year. Thanks to the hard work of Shirley Keenan and many of our seasonal campers we have been able to raise over $80,000 to date!
Right in the heart of the late-summer harvest our family brings in bushels of sweet corn from a neighboring farm, husk and clean it. We boil it up outdoors and serve it up, dipped in warm butter and salted to your liking. Bring your own utensils and come to eat as much as you’d like. Delicious and farm fresh, this is sure to put a smile on everyone’s face!
Back this Year! In autumn we bring out our antique cider press and demonstrate the process of making apple cider. Though times have changed, there was a time where this machine, labor intensive as it seems was state-of-the-art. We show how the apples are chopped, the mash is squeezed and ultimately the apples become that delicious drink we all know and love. Get in on the action and help us transform the fruit into juice! Pasteurized cider will be offered to those who attend.
As fall roles in, we like to get a head start on the fun of this holiday. We love to see everyone break-out their costumes for the first time. Come to the Pavilion for our annual costume contest where we award ribbons for the things like cutest, scariest and most creative! Over the years, we have seen some great costumes! Every contestant must have a number, so be sure to register in advance, or as soon as you arrive to the party. There is no trick or treating permitted around the campground, but free candy will be given at the event.
Bring home a souvenir of your autumn stay by carving your own jack-o-lantern. Adults bring your children to this popular event to test their skill at design and dexterity. We provide the tools you might need and the pumpkins from local farms, plus a few that we raise ourselves. You bring your energy and imagination.
In order to celebrate with our guests we celebrate Thanksgiving a little early at Pleasant Acres. This is a great way to meet your fellow campers, people who have been with us a long time and people just starting out in their camping adventures. Come to swap stories and trade recipes and just enjoy in this shared bounty. Please bring your favorite dish to the Pavilion at 2:00 PM to enjoy the feast!
Each year at the end of the season we like to show our appreciation to those who spend their summers at Pleasant Acres! As the season is winding down, it is a time to show our gratitude. We begin with a specially scheduled Spaghetti Dinner at 1:00 PM. Then, at 3:00 PM we begin our Awards Assembly. Special gifts and awards are given to long-time seasonals, and everyone who has been a seasonal with us for 5 years or more is entered into a drawing for a Free Summer Seasonal Campsite. All campers are welcome to attend!
